Writing--July 19th

Good Morning Writers!

How are you? I hope you are all doing wonderfully well today!

Ok. So here is what is going on this week. I will be on campus at 6:00 this Wednesday to answer any questions that you may have. You do not have to come if you feel that you do not need help. It is up to you.

I will also put your quiz grades on Ucompass later today. Additionally, I will check all of your blog work and write you back today if you left me comments.

Here is your homework for the week:

Level 5/6:
  • Edit and revise your essays from page 43 for Monday. Remember, editing and revising is when you go your writing and fix all of your mistakes. I can help you with this on Wednesday if you would like.
  • Actually, I only saw two essays on the blog. Two weeks ago you were supposed to brain storm about the topic. Last week, I asked you to write the essay. I only saw two today--where are they? Those of you who don't have them done, GET BUSY. I can't comment and tell you what to fix if you haven't done the work!
  • Add two sources (evidence) to your essays. You could chose to cite a definition of what justice is or any other information to support your topic. If you are not sure how to do this, please come Wednesday so that I can help you or send me an email.
  • Turn in a finished essay by next Monday.

"Old Guys"

  • How are you feeling about the definition paragraph? I think that you all did a very good job with this. If you feel like you need more practice, feel free to chose another topic from page 119 and write an additional paragraph. However, if you do not need the extra practice, let's move on to chapter 10.
  • In Chapter 10, you are going to learn about how to write a "comparison and contrast" paragraph. This, of course, will lead you to writing comparison and contrasting essays.
  • Read pages 120-128
  • Complete practices 1 and 2 on the blog.
  • You may want to come in on Wednesday so that I can help you with this.

See you on Wednesday---

Kristi

Chapter 9: Argument
Here are your assignments for this week beginning the 12th of July:
The new level 5/6
In chapter 2 and 3 you have basically learned the two basic parts of anything you read: a main idea and the supporting details but what happens when the main idea is not clearly stated?
  1. Please read pages 141-144 of Ten Steps and complete practice 1, 2 and 3. Then post your results in the blog.
  2. Then explain in your own words how you would figure out the main idea for longer passages?

Writing --Monday, July 12th:

Hi Everyone!

How are you? I hope you are doing very well. I would like to schedule a time next week where I will be in the lab and you can drop by if you need any help. Would you like me to be there during normal class hours (say from 6:00- 7:00 next Wednesday the 21st) or would you prefer a time during the day? Please respond to this blog and let me know your thoughts.

You ALL have a quiz this week over capitalization! It is under 'exams' on Ucompass. Please take it between 6-8:30 on this Wednesday night. It only has 10 questions and shouldn't pose a problem for you. If you are unable to access this quiz, please let me know either via email, Ucompass, or blog. I would like you to put the answers to the quiz on your blog as well. Please just label a post and call it 'Writing Quiz 3'--which is the name on the quiz.

Homework for the week:

Level 5/6:
  • Write a 5 paragraph essay. Your topic is paragraph 4 on page 43. Please place this work on your blog by next Monday.
  • Also, take the quiz on Wednesday.

"Old Guys"
  • Take the quiz on Wednesday.
  • Read pages 109-119.
  • Write a definition paragraph (topics on page 119) and place it on your blog. This is a lot of reading. You do not have to place any of the practice exercises on the blog. If you want to complete any of them for extra practice, go for it! Make sure your paragraph has a lot of supporting details and examples. Also, please make sure that I know exactly what you are writing about. The key to this kind of writing is to be very clear. For this paragraph, please pick one of the topics on page 119.

Ok. I think this is it for the week. Make sure you leave a comment and let me know if you would like to meet next week in the lab. I am still grading your work from last week, and hopefully I will have it done today!

Let me know if you need anything!

Kristi

Writing--Writing---Writing---from Kristi

Hey everyone!

How are you? It will be very weird for me not to see you tonight. How was your 4th of July holiday? We went camping; it was very relaxing. From reading your blogs, I see that most of you either went to picnics or had fireworks at your house....all except for our good friend the baker who had to work! In any case, I hope all of you got to relax a bit. Oh, by the way, Germany beat Argentina (sorry Aboud!). They play again on Wednesday. Will you be watching the game? You know I will be watching it!

Here are your assignments for this week. Remember that everything is due by next Monday.

Level 5/6
  • Study for a quiz. Next week (NOT THIS WEEK!) I will give you a quiz over capitalization. Most of you are still making some very silly mistakes!
  • Read pages 26-33 in Evergreen
  • Complete the practices, but only put the answers to practices 5 and 6 on the blog.
  • Your next 5 paragraph essay will be about justice. What is justice? What is injustice? If you don't know what these words mean, look them up. In fact, paragraph 4 on page 43 is your topic. I would like you to start brainstorming about this topic. Make a blog post with all of your thoughts.
  • So, to review. One homework blog with the answers to 5 and 6, and one brainstorming blog over the topic of justice. Label your blogs "Homework Chapter 3" and "Brainstorming about Justice".

"Old Guys"

  • Study for a quiz on capitalization. You will have this NEXT WEEK--not this week.
  • Read chapter eight.
  • Put practice 3 on the blog for homework
  • Pick one of the topics on page 107 and write a process paragraph. Put this paragraph on the blog and label it "Process Paragraph". Make sure you use the checklist on page 107 to guide you!

Have a great week!

:-) Kristi
