Final Reading and Comprehension Exam

The final Reading and Comprehension Exam will take place this Thursday, the 12th of August from 6-8PM.
Please meet promptly in the classroom and the exam will only cover the following chapters:
The New Lever 5/6- Chapter 1-5
The Old Guys- Chapter 6-10
This exam is worth 25% of your final grade.

Final Exam--Writing

Sorry everyone--

I don't know why Ucompass is not allowing you to access the exam. In any case, here it is:


For your final exam, please complete the following:

Level 5/6-
Add two sources to your technology essay. Make sure you use " " when borrowing information. Also, proofread your work and make sure it is done perfectly. You will also need to check that each paragraph has a topic sentence and that your writing makes sense.

"Old Guys"
Add three sources to your comparison and contrast essays. Make sure that you use " " when you cite information that you are borrowing (like from the dictionary or article) and make sure you have topic sentences, have used transitions, and that your work makes sense.

Final Exam Tonight!

Final Exam Tonight!

Your final exam will be tonight from 6- 8:30. Your instructions will be under exams in UCompass. You will start the exam at 6:00 and finish by 8:30. If you have any problems, please email me via UCompass, post a comment on the blog, or call the ELI.

Also, if you have time, please go to the lab and fill out a course evaluation.

Lastly, I will be teaching level 5/6 this fall (starting August 26th) at night, but the class WILL NOT be online. It will be all face to face.

I had fun teaching you this semester!! I especially enjoyed my 'old guys' whom I have had the pleasure to watch grow and mature as writers over the last eight months. Please, all of you, keep in touch! Some of you are off to the college now and on to other great adventures, but you will still always be my students. I look forward to hearing all about your lives in the days and years to come.

Reading and Comprehension- Week 13

Hello Folks,
Only two weeks before you complete your final exam on the 12th of August. This exam will be proctored in the classroom from 6 PM till 8 PM and is mandatory for all students! It is worth 25% of your final grade.
This week we will begin Chapter 5 and Chapter 10 in preparation for your final exam Here is your reading and Homework for Week 13:

The New Level 5/6

Begin and finish reading Chapter 5: Relationships 1 on page 181 of Ten Steps ......and complete 1-7 for practice by Thursday.

Then complete Review Test 1, 2 and 3 and post your responses in your Blog by Monday

Begin and finish reading Chapter 10: Critical Reading on page 399 of Ten Steps......and then complete practice 1-3 by Thursday.

Then complete Review Test 1, 2 and 3 and post your responses in your Blog by Monday.

Writing--- August 2

Hello--

Today is the last week of work before you take your final exam next Monday night at 6:30. Please follow the directions listed below for each level. "Old Guys" --scroll all the way down to see what I want you to do. Don't forget about the final exam next Monday night.

"Level 5/6"

For next Monday, I would like you to start brainstorming and working on a 5 paragraph essay. Please use this chart below to help you with this topic. You can print this at any computer.

Topic: How will advances in technology shape the 21st century? Will the new technology bring positive changes, negative changes, or both?

The Introduction should have the following components:
The Topic Sentence: One sentence that includes the topic of the essay and your opinion/point of view about the topic
Supporting Sentences (2-3): Two or three main ideas supporting your opinion on the topic (one sentence for each supporting idea). You will need to discuss each supporting idea in the body of your essay.
Summary Sentence (optional): You may include a closing sentence summarizing your opinion/point of view.

Reading and Comprehension- Week 12

Happy Tuesday Morning!

With only three weeks to go to the end of the semester, our final exam will be on the 12th of August. Everyone must attend the College campus to complete the exam that will be proctored in the classroom. It will not be posted online so please save the date! In week 12, we will continue with the reading found in chapter four and nine and complete a quiz found in your packets.

The new level 5/6

  1. Here is a chance to apply your understanding of implied and central ideas to a reading about a childhood experience.
  2. Please read "Rowing the Bus" on page 161 of Ten Steps and complete the Reading Comprehension questions on pages 165-167. Post your results in the blog by Thursday.
  3. Then complete the Implied Main Ideas Test- A that is found in your packet and post your results in your Blog by Monday.
The Old Guys

  1. Can failing a course be good for students? Here is a chance to apply your understanding of argument to an essay that addresses that question.
  2. Please read "In Praise of the F Word "on page 381 of Ten Steps and then complete the comprehension questions on page 384-386. Post your results in the blog by Thursday.
  3. Then complete the Argument Test-A that is found in your packet and post your results in your Blog by Monday.
